The majority of Trilakons were more concerned with navigating this rather larger vessel out of this rather dead system than with performing arbitrary and useless science experiments. But there was a tiny group of them who, never having found such things on a decaying planet, thought The Brightening Of The Fourth Moon had come early (every bipedal
race
has it’s geeksevery bipedal race has it’s geeks). The glass room which they were reluctantly given for their project was mounted on the back of the ship and peered out into the universe.
Though the female had been found to be rather immaculate and clean, the male was discovered amongst the viruses and the waste. It had taken nearly two revolutions for them to get him to some kind of homeostasis and be assured that he had nothing with which he could infect her. He put up no resistance and, although the Trilakons lacked the ability to understand it, his eyes possessed a tired look of defeat.
She was already in the room when they began to take him down. The Trilakons, sitting and watching from a viewing room in the top, had all along suspected that she was quite ‘beautiful’, but it took the male’s initial reaction to really drive the point home. He quickly got nervous at being naked, but then, seeing her beautiful black body also exposed, he forgot that clothes had ever existed. Looking first at the aliens, then at the man, she approached him as a relative, smiling for a moment before seeing his eyes and their sad message which had escaped the others.
The man nearly began to cry when he caught her scent, scanning her body up and down with an almost painful sigh of relief . Her looked changed from exuberant friendliness to one of compassion. She spoke.
” ,” in a tongue he couldn’t understand. But he heard her and laid his head on her naked shoulder. She ran her hand through his hair making a soothing noise with her lips. Up above, some of the Trilakons had anxiously jumped out of their seats, not sure what to make of all this; others were, in fact, quite bored with the whole thing.
The last two humans held each other for some time; existing together as the stars of their dead solar system illuminated the similar differences of their perfect bodies. It wasn’t long before they remembered what it meant to be ‘people’ and began wishing to perform human-nesses’ finale, if the cute (in a disgusting way) creatures would only give them a half-hour to themselves.
